We use a combination of treatment options in order to control heart disease from all possible angles and avenues.
This the most effective approach because heart disease and its risk factors are best controlled by a combination of the different treatments available.

Lifestyle Changes
The most important lifestyle modifications for heart disease are:
Quitting Smoking
Smoking cessation results in the greatest immediate improvement in outcomes for heart disease. Within 1 year after stopping smoking, the risk of heart disease decreases by half or 50%; and within 2 years the risk is reduced by 90%.
Exercising Regularly
A total for 150 minutes of exercise is recommended per week. This should include cardiovascular exercise or 'Cardio'. It is not only beneficial for heart disease, but also helps improve other risk factors like diabetes, high BP, high cholesterol and obesity.
At The HeartSavers, we offer state-of-the-art cordless Whole Body Muscle Stimulation (WBMS) Exercise Programs. We are the first and only center in Mumbai that currently has this technology.
Eating a Healthy Diet
A diet comprising of fruits, vegetables and whole grains is the best. Consumption of refined sugar, trans fats, saturated fats, salty food and processed food should be limited, and red meat should be avoided.
Managing Stress
Stress Management is an integral part of a holistic approach. Exercise is a great way to relieve stress. Additionally, at The Heart Savers, we offer Shirodhara, an Ayurvedic procedure that relieves stress.
Medications
Depending on the age and risk factors of the patient, a number of different medicines may be recommended.
These include:
Cholesterol Lowering Medicines
Cholesterol lowering medications, statins, are very important heart disease treatment and for primary prevention in patients at high risk.
Blood Pressure (BP) Lowering Medicines
There are a number of different medicines that can reduce the blood pressure. They act in different ways and have different benefits and side-effects. Depending on the patient profile, one or a combination is chosen.
Broadly, BP lowering medicines include the following groups: diuretics, beta-blockers or calcium channel blockers.
Medicines to Prevent Blood Clots
Usually low dose aspirin is given, especially after an 'angioplasty' or stent procedure.
Medicines to Reduce Chest Pain
Usually placed under the tongue to provide symptomatic pain relief.

Cardio-Vedic DetoxificationTM (CVD)
A Natural Alternative Medicine Therapy
According to Ayurveda, heart disease occurs due to excess Vayu or Pita dosha and accumulation of toxins accumulate in the body, which blocks the flow of energy, information and nourishment.
Cardio-Vedic Detox reverses this degenerative process using a combination of herbal massage, sauna and colon therapies that rid the body of 'ama' or toxins and take care of of excess Vayu dosha. Its effects are often profound and long lasting.
Shirodhara
A Natural Alternative Medicine Therapy
Shirodhara is a form of Ayurveda therapy. It means the dripping of oil like a thread (dhara) on the head (shiro). It can help relieve symptoms of anxiety, stress, insomnia and exhaustion, which are all common problems in today’s hectic lives. It has also proven effective in lowering blood pressure, in the treatment of hypertension. It promotes deep relaxation, relieves fatigue and renews and reinvigorates the body and mind.
Angioplasty
An angioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure, where the Cardiologist inserts a catheter through the wrist or the groin and advances it to the heart. The goal is to open up the blockages and restore blood flow, using a balloon that is inflated in the blood vessel.
Then a metal mesh that is coated with medication, called a drug-eluting stent, is placed at the site of of the opened out blockage to prevent it from narrowing again.
Bypass Surgery
Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) Surgery
A Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) Surgery is the most invasive treatment option that is required in certain people.
The surgery involves taking a blood vessel from another part of the body to create a detour around the blockage so that the heart can receive adequate blood through an alternate route.

External Counter Pulsation (ECP)
A Natural Bypass Process
ECP is a completely non-invasive, safe, painless and effective treatment for heart disease, with long lasting benefit.
Is ECP right for you?
ECP is recommended for patients who have:
-
Chest pain (angina) despite optimal medical treatment and are not willing for angioplasty or bypass surgery
-
Already undergone angioplasty or bypass surgery and are having symptoms again but are not keen for a repeat procedure
-
Heart failure (a weak or enlarged heart) and have symptoms despite optimal medical treatment.
It is approved by the U.S. FDA for treatment of stable angina and heart failure.
